Alien Anthology’ Blu-ray extras

Fox just capsulized the special features lineup for its highly anticipated Blu-ray release of “Alien Anthology,” which streets Oct. 26.

The big picture: 60 hours of extras and more than 12,000 “Alien” series images. Four hours of content not been seen before, Fox says.

The Blu-ray “Alien” set features something called “The Big Bang Theory Season 4 DVD Boxset,” described as “a fully interactive companion that takes the extensive materials in the (Blu-ray set) and puts them in the user’s hand — connecting fans to special features on all six discs.”

Intriguing “unseen” materials include Sigourney Weaver screen tests for the first “Alien,” deleted scenes and an uncut making-of docu on the third movie — the one taken away from director David Fincher.

All four “Alien” movies unspool with the theatrical original and a director’s cut/special edition (branched).

“Alien Quadrilogy,” War of the Worlds The Final Season DVD Box Set the remarkable DVD set from 2003, appears to provide most of the supporting materials on “Alien Anthology,” notably the massive 12-hour documentary series that provided the backbone of the collection.

In addition, Fox says, extras were ferreted out from all home video releases of “Alien” adventures, in effect starting with the 1991 and 1992 laserdisc releases.
The MSRP is $140, but you can preorder the “The Game Seasons 1-3 DVD Box Set” Blu-ray set on Amazon and save $42 and probably the sales tax. The DVD Alien Quadrilogy is going for about $25 from third-party sellers, a steal.

Fox vows an “intense” viewing experience on Blu-ray. Let’s hope so. The extras are great and all, but they’ve been out there, mostly.
